Mariela has proudly taken two different oaths of office in her career; The Military Oath of Office and The Federal Employee Oath of Office. Each time, Mariela has made a commitment to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and is a firm supporter of the oath serving as a solemn reminder of the duty that we all must share to uphold the Constitution. If elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, Mariela will ensure to be 100% accountable to all of the citizens within her district and the United States, and once again take a third oath of service to ensure the Constitution remains the bedrock of what we stand for and are willing to fight and work towards making this country better for current and generations to come.
Mariela is a firm supporter of the Constitution in its entirety, including the 2nd Amendment as it is written. She believes that we not only have the right to self-defense, but also the right to bear arms in the face of tyrannical government as our Founding Fathers intended. Gun rights are for all law abiding citizens and not just for the wealthy or well-connected.
Mariela is firmly against any type of attack on any community based on their religion, race, sex, or identity. What makes this country great is the diversity found within our communities. Together we can make this country better for generations to come. Supporting Israel and fighting antisemitism is in the interest of both America and the free world.
Iron Dome Funding: The US helps to fund the Iron Dome technology used to shoot down missiles and mortars via advanced electronics and countermeasures, and I fully support this effort to protect a strategic ally against unwarranted aggression.
Taylor Force Act (TFA): Taylor Force was a Christian American Veteran who was killed by a terrorist in Israel. Once the terrorist was captured and convicted, the Palestinian Authority (PA) funded his family through annual stipends. In response, the US Congress passed the Taylor Force Act (TFA). The TFA, by law, mandated the stopping of funding of organizations and/or governments that fund terrorists and their families. The Palestinian Authority provides funds to the families of individuals convicted of terrorism, called a Martyr’s Fund. Once the TFA was passed, our prior administration followed the law and stopped funding the PA. However, the current administration has worked around this funding by passing the funds via the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), giving them about $225 million annually. As a veteran and American, I fully support the TFA. We should not be providing welfare payments to the families of terrorists.
United Nations Refugee Welfare Agency (UNRWA): UNRWA started out as a temporary UN agency to help over 725,000 refugees (125,000 Jews, 600,000 Muslims). Within two years, the 125,000 Jews were resettled into Israel and other countries; the 600,000 Muslims were placed into camps where the local countries refused to accept them as citizens. Today, there are more than 5.3 million people on UNRWA’s payroll (many of which don’t exist), which exceeds $1.4 billion (with the US contributing $368 million). In addition to funding a welfare agency to foreigners, our funding helps to support an organization like UNRWA who indoctrinates kids in hate, with textbooks steeped in antisemitism. With no direct benefit to American citizens, funding was stopped under the previous president, but restarted under the current president. As an American, this makes no sense to me. We need to support organizations that foster peace and understanding, not hatred.
Anti-Semitism on Campus: The percentage of antisemitic attacks on college campuses has increased substantially, representing a majority of all racial attacks on campus. While any hatred and attacks on any group are unthinkable, the antisemitism on college campuses which is being tolerated by the university management should be countered with defunding and other actions. Under the previous president, an Executive Order was signed to stop antisemitism on campus. While the current president hasn’t rescinded this Order, he has been silent at best. We need to pass a law that includes Jews as part of the persecuted minorities under the Civil Rights Act. It is the only way that this ongoing hatred will be stopped.
Congressional Anti-Semitic Attacks: It doesn’t matter whether you are a republican or a democrat, attacks on any group based on misinformation and lies cannot be condoned. All hate should be banned with the perpetrators punished accordingly. Nothing has been done to some progressive liberals in Congress for their antisemitic rhetoric. I will stand up against anyone that puts forth hatred against any group, including Jews.
Mariela is committed to working on reforming healthcare access for families in our district with common-sense and prompt solutions. When Mariela became the primary caregiver to her terminally ill mother, she quickly realized how low cost and high-quality healthcare alongside affordable prescription drugs are imperative to decreasing the burden families are already facing with the stress of taking care of loved ones. Our federal government can and should immediately work with pharmaceutical companies to establish price transparency and renegotiate drug prices to lower the enormously high cost of medications in this country. Sky-rocketing premiums, co-payments, and medication prices make it almost impossible for every American to have access to affordable, life-saving healthcare and medications. Mariela also recognizes that supporting American innovation in healthcare is something to be proud of. We should also work to ensure that the innovative work done by healthcare companies, which is the reason why the US has the most top-rated healthcare system in the world, is also protected. We need to work together to make our healthcare system better and make it available to all Americans without making it socialized.
Mariela understands the special pride, tradition, and history held within the United States military. Having served in the United States Air Force herself, she first-hand understands what military men, women, and their families sacrifice to protect our freedoms, both abroad and at home. This nation must keep the promises and commitments we have made to our military veterans by ensuring essential services and care are always available and delivered in a prompt and first-class manner. This includes access to adequate and safe medical service, healthcare for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI), and other service-connected disabilities. Veterans and their families also need access to job opportunities that translate their military training to civilian jobs. These are only a few of the many essential veteran disability and retirement benefits we have earned through our courageous service, and we must ensure they are always and easily accessible to all veterans no matter what their current social and economic status is.
Mariela is a product of this country’s public school system and firmly believes that K-12 educators have one of the most difficult and essential jobs within this country. Having two children of her own that currently attend public schools, she understands the importance that providing equal and quality education is key to future generations. Mariela believes that parents should have the final say in how and where their children receive their education. School choice allows public education funds to follow students to the schools and services that best fits their needs - whether that’s to a public school, private school, charter school, home school, or any other learning environment their families choose.
Mariela believes that anyone from around the world should be able to legally immigrate into our country, become citizens, and achieve the American Dream. The current state of this country’s immigration process is extremely flawed and must be fixed. Immigrants that are entering this country lawfully and wanting to become productive, law-abiding citizens of this great nation should not have to wait years on end and spend thousands of hard-earned dollars on lawyers to help them get the process moving along. Reforming the current state of this country’s immigration policies and increasing border security is key to national security. Mariela firmly believes that our nation’s borders should not be wide open for anyone to come in without going through the proper procedures. Having served in the military, Mariela understands the importance of security in all aspects, and border security should not be the exception.
