Roca Officially Announces Run for Congress in MD-06
April 15, 2022
Frederick, MD – Mariela Roca, a U.S. Air Force Veteran, and 12-year Maryland resident officially announces her candidacy to represent the people of Maryland’s 6th Congressional District.
Roca initially filed to run for Congress in District 8th before Democrats’ gerrymandered maps were overturned. Frederick County is now in its entirety part of the 6th district, instead of sharing areas with the 8th district under the previous maps.
“When I decided to run for Congress last year, it was because I wanted to continue to serve my country, my community, family, friends, and the great people of Maryland. This is the community where I have built my home and am raising my children.”
Roca, born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a Medical Logistician currently working as a contractor for the Department of Veterans Affairs after deploying to Afghanistan in 2007. She earned her Doctor of Business Administration from the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC), Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Mount Saint Mary’s University, and B.S. in Computer Information Technology from the University of Maryland University College (UMUC).
Roca is running as a Republican who will put America and its citizens first by working to reduce inflation, lower taxes, increase economic security, empower parents, protect students, fight violent crime, and work to solve our border crisis. In addition, Roca hopes to become the first Hispanic American ever elected to represent the state of Maryland in Congress and get back to what truly matters: the people of this great state and country.
“The 6th Congressional District desperately needs new leadership that can bring new ideas to the table and delivers real results. With over 16 years of experience between my time in the Air Force and working with the Department of Defense and VA, I understand what it means to serve. I will listen to you. I will learn from you. and I will lead with you,” says Roca. “We need new leadership in Washington that will focus on what unites us, fight inflation, and support both local law enforcement and our Armed forces. Now is the time to vote for someone who will step up for the people of Maryland’s 6th Congressional District. I promise that I will put service over politics and will be your voice when we so desperately need it.”
The 2022 Maryland primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, July 19th, 2022.
